The
dance ‘Satriya’ has its origin in the Island of Majuli, situated in
the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra River in Assam. Majuli is one of
the biggest riverine islands in the world. The name ‘Satriya’ is derived
from ‘Satra’ the monastery of the Vaishnavite sect. Today, it is one
of the popular classical dance forms of Assam, portraying the cultural
